Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQS

What type of albums does the site have?

Gay Tunes sells, distributes and promotes albums of "out" gay and lesbian artists. That is the main type of music we are interested in. We also sell albums with gay subject matter. Finally, we also sell albums that are intended for a gay audience or that are gay sensitive. Many of the dance compilations fall into this last category.

How quickly are albums shipped?

When we started GayTunes.com we purchased albums and shipped them ourselves. Unfortunately the site was too small to achieve any significant volume and we decided that was no longer practical. We now offer music and related products through Amazon.com. When you place an order on Amazon they will give you delivery options based on your zip code and will tell you how long delivery will take.

Can you mail me a catalog?

We represent a lot of record labels and artists. The albums on the site change regularly. It would not be practical to produce a printed catalog. The web site is our catalog. If you would like to know when new albums appear online, please sign up for our mailing list.

Who are you guys?

Most web sites don't give much of a clue who is behind them. This web site is one of 15 gay/lesbian sites operated by GLINN Media Corporation, the parent of the Gay/Lesbian International News Network. You can easily check out all of our sites through our gateway at GLINN.COM. GLINN has been in business serving the gay community since 1986. Our main site contains information on company history and our activities. GLINN occupied its own building in downtown Milwaukee, WI and had complete in-house facilities including a photo/recording studio. We operated our own backbone connections, and operated our own web, dns, and mail servers. Our facility was even equipped with a large backup generator. In September 2001 we moved to Key West, FL and are in the process of moving into our own facility.

In 2005 the founder and owner of GLINN formed a corporation called Blue Planet Offices, Inc. which is now the parent corporation of GLINN Media Corporation. Blue Planet Offices, Inc. is a Florida corporation. GLINN Media Corporation is a registered dba with the Florida Secretary of State owned by Blue Planet.

Artist FAQS

I'm a Musician with a CD. How do I get my album on the site

We will be happy to accept a free review copy. Send it to: GLINN Media, 1107 Key Plaza, Box 306, Key West, FL 330404077. If we like it, we will offer it on the site. In order for us to offer your album for sale on GayTunes your album must be available from Amazon.com. Although we like CD Baby and other sites, they do not have an affiliate program or offer commissions. An exception may be made for albums we really like and when we are given permission to use songs in our podcasts. We will then offer your album and provide a link to your own site or whatever site you want that sells the album. Include an artist bio, and if possible photos and other interesting material that will help us sell the album. Support materials can be mailed, sent by email, or most preferably, uploaded directly to our FTP server. See below for FTP instructions.

Do I have to allow song samples?

No, you are not required to. However, we do suggest it. You can limit the length of the samples and you can limit them to specific songs if you desire. Chances are few people have heard of you and even fewer have heard your music. Even if you have an album out, it is not likely to be in heavy rotation at major radio stations. To realistically expect people to purchase your album they are going to want to hear at least some of it. We also want visitors to the site to be informed and entertained. We want this shopping experience to be enjoyable and worthwhile. There are more than enough sites selling music and we want to stand out in this niche.

I'm a Musician with a Sample Song. Can I put it on your site?

We would be happy to receive your song for review. If it is appropriate and of reasonable quality, we will make it available on the site for either download or direct streaming. We will typically convert your sound file and stream it from the site. If the song is available for download as a wav file or MP3, it will be distributed far and wide and you lose total control of it.

How do I send you my music or other file?

If the file is small you could file attach it to a piece of email. If it is large you can send it to us by mail on CD or a Zip disc. You will be able to upload the files to us by FTP in the near future.

If you need help using a FTP program or would like to download one, visit our FTP HELP page.

You can also FTP us images, sample.htm files and text for use on the page selling your album.

Can I control the page selling my album?

The pages of gaytunes.com are only accessible inhouse for obvious reasons of security. That said, we do accept input. You can make suggestions. You can also upload to us elements to use in the page. If you are real determined with html skills and we don't have the time to make the changes, you can simply save the page, make changes to it and then upload the page to our FTP server at submit.gaytunes.com.

Can I have my own pages on Gaytunes.com?

If you would like to have your own site within our site that you have full control over, we will be happy to give you a free site here. If you are sick of free web hosting services with their cluttering banners and slow speed, you can move your existing site to us. Your site name will be "music.gaytunes.com/artistname/". There will be an entry page to all artist sites at "music.gaytunes.com" as well. Send us an email request. Your personal site will be linked from your album page on gaytunes.

Will Gay Tunes produce my album?

At this point we are a not a record label. We are exploring that idea. If you have an album completed and do not have a record label, we can help you self-publish the album for sale on our site. You can also sell the albums elsewhere. We have the facilities to burn and duplicate CD's, print CD labels, print inserts, package and shrink wrap, in small quantities. We can help create cover art and connect you with artists. You can also use these CD albums as demos for sending out to "real" record companies.

If you are located in Key West, FL we may be able to produce your album or music video. We do have a modest production capability in Key West. Visit TelevisionKeyWest.Com to learn more.
